Chasing Butterflies

It was interesting trying to figure out what image I wanted to post first. It's one of those things, you want to make a good first impression, so I picked one of my personal favorites.

This photo, entitled "Chasing Butterflies", really encapsulates my motivation as an artist and photographer. When I first got into photography, I really wanted a nice picture of a butterfly. The building I lived in at the time, had a field behind it that was swarming with monarch butterflies. Being naive I thought getting a picture would be a simple task. How wrong I was. I would spend days and weeks chasing butterflies all over this field without a single significant image to show for it. I was frustrated but eventually moved away from that building and moved on to other things creatively.

About a year later while on a photo trip with a good friend of mine I stumbled upon this butterfly and without even thinking about it captured a series of images, the one used to make this picture being the best of the lot. To this day it stands as one of the most gratifying experiences I've had creatively, and that's why I'll never shy away from "Chasing Butterflies."
