My First Gallery Show!!!!

Hey check it out three posts in one day!

So as the title suggests I have my first gallery show coming up at the end of August. It kicks off on the 21st and will run for 10 days. I will be showcasing five pieces which will also be for sale. I will be previewing the five pieces involved in the coming weeks leading up to the show itself.

There will be a kick off shindig on the 21st featuring drinks and music. I'll post more details as I get them.

The Rainbow River

From time to time I will try to feature stuff from other websites that feature stunning photography, interesting artwork or other creative things of interest. This first feature comes from the always phenomenal Environmental Graffiti.

These are photos from the Cano Cristales waterfall in Columbia. In the days between the wet and dry seasons, the water level drops low enough that the sun warms the various mosses and algae causing this stunning display of colour.

Today I've decided to post something that's strictly photography without and composting. As with anything there are a few minor tweaks to colour and contrast but this is largely an as is photo.

I would also like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to all those who might be interested in modeling. I am always looking for new subjects to photograph and generally offer a small honorarium for the work provided. I'm open to collaboration in terms of concept and generally it's a fun experience.

For all those interested, drop me a line in the comments or shoot me an email at Christopher.b.bell@gmail.com.

Painted Mars

In contrast to yesterdays post digging up a past favorite, I've decided to go with something new today, at least new in it's current form.

"Painted Mars" is a great example of the kind of reclamation projects made possible through Photoshop. As you can see, the original photo is quite washed out, overexposed and just plain bad. Some tweaks with the colour and few filters and tricks and we have something much more interesting, and much less conventional.

Chasing Butterflies

It was interesting trying to figure out what image I wanted to post first. It's one of those things, you want to make a good first impression, so I picked one of my personal favorites.

This photo, entitled "Chasing Butterflies", really encapsulates my motivation as an artist and photographer. When I first got into photography, I really wanted a nice picture of a butterfly. The building I lived in at the time, had a field behind it that was swarming with monarch butterflies. Being naive I thought getting a picture would be a simple task. How wrong I was. I would spend days and weeks chasing butterflies all over this field without a single significant image to show for it. I was frustrated but eventually moved away from that building and moved on to other things creatively.

About a year later while on a photo trip with a good friend of mine I stumbled upon this butterfly and without even thinking about it captured a series of images, the one used to make this picture being the best of the lot. To this day it stands as one of the most gratifying experiences I've had creatively, and that's why I'll never shy away from "Chasing Butterflies."

I have a blog

Ladies, gentlemen and all those in between, welcome to my blog, World is Art.

The purpose of this blog is to aid me in my journey as an artist, enable people who are fans of my art to follow me online and allow everyone to follow the projects I'm working on and the events I will be involved in.

I will endeavor to put up a new piece of artwork on a daily basis. Some of it will be brand new never before seen stuff, some of it will be old favorites of mine. Where appropriate I will offer some commentary on the piece in quest and I welcome any and all comments, both positive and negative.

I'll also be posting things I've written from time to time, mostly poetry and short stories. I'll also occasionally add some commentary on issues pertaining to the larger artistic community.

I hope you will all enjoy this blog and this insight into the creative side of my life.
